Industry optimism makes sense

MIAMI – Though Info-Link’s Bellwether Report for January suggests powerboat sales are down slightly, compared to last year, there are reasons to be optimistic about 2006, the company said in a recent statement.

January sales only represent a little more than 2 percent of total annual boat sales, according to Info-Link, and the adjusted graphs should be taken into context.

The U.S. economy is “accelerating in 2006 like a four-man bobsled on a straightaway,” a Feb. 27 article in Business Week reported.

“Economic growth is obviously a big factor in discretionary spending, but we’re hoping that the unusually warm January will spur more thoughts of being on the water this spring,” said Jesse Wells, director of sales and marketing at Info-Link.
