Stronger Canadian dollar drives Vancouver show sales

VANCOUVER, BC, Canada – Sales at this year’s Vancouver boat show appear to be breaking records, according to an article today in The Vancouver Sun.

Olympic Boat Center’s Manager of Canadian operations Aaron Fell told the newspaper that the strengthening Canadian dollar and the health of British Columbia’s economy are driving the increased sales.

“A boat that is $15,000 [Canadian] today would have been $18,000 to $19,000 a few years ago,” he said. “The overall cost of owning a boat has gone down significantly.”

The show, which runs throughout the weekend, is expected to draw 40,000 visitors and generate about $30 million Canadian in sales, according to the newspaper.
