MRAA provides members low cost legal representation

OAK PARK, Ill. – The Marine Retailers Association of America has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with a New York law firm to provide low cost, in-house counsel for its dealers, the MRAA said in a recent release.

The firm, Bellavia Gentile & Associates of Mineola, N.Y., specializes in representing dealers (automobile and boat) in the areas of dealer-manufacturer relations; franchise and dealer agreements; state statutes governing business and lemon laws and product liability laws. Leonard Bellavia, founding partner of the firm, was noted by the president of the New York State Automobile Dealers Association as the sharpest and most knowledgeable franchise attorney in the state, MRAA said.

“This MOU creates a unique opportunity for dealers to gain immediate access to experienced counsel at extremely discounted rates,” said Glenn Mazzella, MRAA chairman. “Through this arrangement, each dealer who participates can actually have in-house counsel.”

MRAA members can enroll in the BGA Marine Dealer Representation Program no matter what state they are located in. For a small monthly retainer, the dealer will have unlimited telephone advice and/or consultation concerning dealership operations on a number of critical areas. The dealer will also receive preparation or review of letters and general issues in response to complaints from consumers, consumer agencies and governmental agencies.

Dealers will receive reduced rates in a number of other areas if they choose to have BGA represent them, including: shareholder agreements, employment contracts, dealer floor plan financing negotiations and documents, transactions involving the sale of purchase of the dealership or real estate and litigation by/or against the dealership.

“All MRAA members in good standing will have the opportunity to take advantage of this endorsed program,” said MRAA President, Phil Keeter. “Every member will be receiving more detailed information shortly.”
