Boat builder’s $10,000 political contribution returned

MANITOWOC, Wis. – Burger Boat Co. recently had $10,000 it donated to Wis. Gov. Jim Doyle’s campaign returned, according to an article today in The Badger Herald.

The governor decided to return the donation because it was revealed that the company had applied for and been chosen to receive a state Harbor Assistance Program grant, the newspaper reported.

A Doyle campaign spokesperson told the newspaper, however, that the donations did not effect the decision made by the state Department of Transportation’s citizen advisory board.

In fact, the board has no connections to any campaigns or political activities at all, a DOT analyst told the newspaper.

Burger Boat President David Ross declined to comment for the newspaper article.
