NMMA PAC hits funding record

WASHINGTON – The National Marine Manufacturers Association Political Action Committee raised a record amount of money from a record number of donors in 2005, NMMA said in a release last week.

As of Dec. 29, NMMA PAC had raised a record $196,344 from 298 donors, representing a 59-percent increase in contributions, and a 39-percent increase in the number of donors, compared to 2004 levels.

NMMA PAC said that for the first time in its history, it has achieved a 100 percent contribution rate from all eligible members of NMMA’s Board of Directors and three division board of directors: boat manufacturers, accessory manufacturers and engine manufacturers.

“Political observers should take note of the impressive contributions to the NMMA PAC over the past year,” said Monita Fontaine, NMMA vice president of Government Relations. “This robust support is indicative of how politically astute recreational marine industry members are, and signals that the industry intends to be heard in Washington as a serious player.”

There were 53 eligible board members contributing a total of $55,031 to NMMA PAC. The average contribution for each board member equaled $1,038, with the average contribution for each board broken down as follows: NMMA Board of Directors – $1,067; BMD Board of Directors – $1,332; AMD Board of Directors – $648; EMD Board of Directors – $1,184.

“Thanks to the kind of initiative the NMMA Board of Directors has shown in support of the NMMA PAC, NMMA is increasingly able to focus congressional attention on our member’s concerns and overall economic contributions,” said NMMA president Thom Dammrich.
