MIAMI — A record number of boat and engine manufacturers were recognized by the National Marine Manufacturers Association at the 2005 International BoatBuilders’ Exhibition and Conference in Miami Beach Oct. 21 for excellence in customer satisfaction, the association reported in a recent statement.
The 51 companies were recognized by the Marine Industry CSI Awards Program — part of the association’s Customer Satisfaction Index program — which salutes participating companies actively measuring customer satisfaction to pursue continuous improvement.
Award recipients achieved and maintained an independently-measured standard of excellence of 90 percent or higher in customer satisfaction over the past year, based on information provided by more than 50,000 consumers purchasing a new boat and engine during the period between July 2004 and June 2005.
“The commitment to overall customer satisfaction with their products demonstrated by these award-winning companies is moving our industry ahead as we work to improve the boating experience and grow boating,” said NMMA president Thom Dammrich. “The Marine Industry CSI Program expanded considerably in the last year, which clearly demonstrates more boat and engine manufacturers place a growing importance on the voice of consumers. We must continue raising the bar on the customer satisfaction levels throughout the entire boating industry.”

NMMA launched its Marine Industry CSI Program in 2001 to provide boat and engine manufacturers with a cost-effective tool to help improve the quality of customer relations in boating industry. Since the program’s inception, upwards of 350,000 surveys have been sent out to new boat and engine customers, allowing the more than almost 90 participating manufacturer companies to monitor customer satisfaction on an ongoing basis, and to benchmark themselves against industry averages.
