SeaKey spun off by Volvo Penta

CHESAPEAKE, Va. –– Volvo Penta of the Americas has spun-off its SeaKey telematics business to become a new entity: SeaKey, LLC, the company reported in a recent statement.

SeaKey telematics integrate Global Positioning System technologies with electronic mapping and mobile communications to monitor and provide boat data from port, land or sea.

Jan Hellaker, former Volvo Penta chief telematics officer and director of Volvo Penta’s Sea Key business unit, will lead SeaKey, LLC as its general manager. In his new position, Hellaker will provide consistent leadership through the company’s transition and beyond –– and will focus the newly independent company’s efforts on product development, business growth and customer support, the company reported.

“As an independent company with an exclusive focus on telematics, we’ll be looking to expand our technology base and accelerate the pace of product development,” said Hellaker. “Customers can count on the same high level of service and support from SeaKey, LLC that they’ve come to expect from Volvo Penta, and can look forward to new product innovations in the coming year.”

The next generation of SeaKey, offering new features and functionality, will be on display at the International Boat Builders’ Exhibition and Conference (IBEX), October 19-21, in Miami, Fla.

Volvo Penta of the Americas will continue to sell SeaKey, LLC’s products to its North American OEM customers and will continue to provide service support through its dealer network, it explained. Current OEM customers can continue to order SeaKey systems and components through Volvo Penta.
