Record donations reported by NMMA PAC

WASHINGTON – Breaking all previous records, the National Marine Manufacturers Association Political Action Committee brought in $82,248 during the second quarter of 2005, bringing the year-to-date total to $158,081, NMMA reported in a release earlier this week.

In 2004, NMMA PAC raised $123,308 from 214 donors, but there have already been 230 NMMA members who have contributed to the PAC this year.

This early fundraising success has enabled NMMA PAC to disburse $61,500 to federal candidates and committees-the most ever contributed by the PAC this early in an election cycle.

NMMA PAC is a bipartisan political action committee created to elect candidates to the U.S. Congress who are advocates for the recreational boating industry. PAC funds are generated by personal donations from NMMA members.

“NMMA PAC is a vital tool for accomplishing the goals of the recreational marine industry in Washington,” said NMMA vice president of Government Relations Monita Fontaine. “Having a strong PAC is essential to gaining and maintaining access to key legislators and for being a powerful player in Washington’s public policy mechanism.”

Several industry leaders are already joining the contest for NMMA PAC’s 2005 Corporate Citizen Awards. Though the race is half over, a lot of time remains for companies interested in competing for this industry honor. In the Total Amount of Contributions category, Indmar Products currently holds the lead with $20,050. But Marinas International is within striking distance of Indmar with $12,895, and Viking Yachts still very much in the game with $12,000.

In the Total Number of Contributors category, Faria Marine Instruments holds a strong lead with 44 contributors, while Grady-White Boats and Indmar are tied for second place with ten contributors each.

NMMA, PWIA and AMI employees have contributed $10,401 from 35 donors to NMMA PAC.
