Congress recognizes 2005 National Marina Day
WASHINGTON, D.C. – On July 28, the U.S. House of Representatives recognized August 13 as National Marina Day across the country by passing House Resolution 308, according to a statement Friday from the Association of Marina Industries, which is producing the annual event.
The resolution, introduced by Rep. Norman Dicks, D-Wash., supports the goals of National Marina Day and urges America’s marinas to continue to serve as environmentally friendly gateways to boating.
A similar measure introduced by Sen. Patty Murray, D-Wash., was passed by the Senate on July 27. Sen. Maria Cantwell, D-Wash., also sponsored the Senate resolution.
National Marina Day is produced by the AMI and is an annual nationwide celebration of America’s marinas. In 2005, National Marina Day will be observed on August 13.
“Having National Marina Day recognized by both the House and Senate is great affirmation of our goals for this celebration as National Marina Day preparations head into the home stretch,” said Dale Thomas, 2005 National Marina Day committee co-chairman. “The marina industry is grateful to Rep. Dicks and Sen. Murray for their efforts to recognize the American marina industry.”
NMD 2005 co-chairman Dwight Jones continued, “These resolutions honor our efforts as an industry, and it is my sincere hope that marina operators everywhere will at least post these resolutions in their facilities on National Marina Day as a visible sign that marinas are America’s family-friendly gateways to boating. I am especially pleased that the support for the bill came from my own state of Washington, and am grateful to the representatives for their contribution to the industry.”
