Airmar Technology acquires Gem Electronics

MILFORD, N.H. – Airmar Technology Corp., a manufacturer of transducers and sensors for the marine industry, has acquired marine electronics distributor Gem Electronics Company of Lake City, S.C., announced Airmar founder, Chairman and CEO Stephen Boucher in an announcement yesterday.

Gem Electronics, a long-established aftermarket supplier of transducers, antennas, mounts, microphones, cables, connectors and other specialty items, will be incorporated into the Airmar family as Gemeco Marine Accessories, LLC. The two businesses have long been closely related. For many years, Gem Electronics has been the primary outlet for Airmar replacement parts and hard-to-find sensors, Boucher noted.

“This acquisition is an important step for us to increase sales to marinas, dealers, boat builders and end users, expanding our business and ensuring positive growth for the future,” said Boucher.

Peter Braffitt, well known across the marine electronics industry as Airmar’s business development manager, was named business development manager for Gemeco Marine Accessories. His new role will focus on finding new ways to expand services in all marine business segments.

Braffitt has relocated to South Carolina to work alongside Bob Hall, founder and general manager of Gem Electronics, as well as Office Manager Linda Norris and key staffers Nancy Truluck, Freddis Floyd, Rachel McClellan and Dawn Cheek.

“Since the staff at Gemeco has worked closely with Airmar for many years, we expect a smooth integration of our two operations,” said Braffitt.
