House passes water resources bill
WASHINGTON – The U.S. House of Representatives has passed the Water Resources Development Act of 2005, a bill supported by the National Marine Manufacturers Association that contains authorizations for many projects vital to this nation’s economic and environmental health, NMMA said in a recent press release.
“NMMA has been working with a large coalition of water resources stakeholders to urge Congress to send the president a comprehensive water resources bill for the past several years,” said Monita Fontaine, NMMA vice president of government relations.
“WRDA is important to NMMA members and the recreational boating community at large because it provides for so much of this nation’s recreational boating infrastructure. The margin of passage this year is a clear sign that Congress is serious about sending a bill to the president and we will continue working to ensure the Senate follows suit.”
NMMA said the bill, which passed the House by a 406 to 14 margin, would ensure that the country’s water resources remain healthy and accessible.
