Former Sea Ray execs create new yacht company

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Industry veteran Bill Barrington, former president of Sea Ray Boats, and two former senior Sea Ray executives, Gary Stoecker and Scott Noble, have organized a new yacht company called Savannah Yacht Company LLC, the company reported in a recent release.

Barrington, CEO of Savannah Yachts, was the president of Sea Ray for 12 years and was former chairman of the National Marine Manufacturers Association. He and his partners organized and invested in the company and raised private equity capital provided by a small group of business executives in Tennessee. They have acquired land and a new facility in Effingham County, Ga., close to Savannah, and are in the process of making the facility ready for production.

“We have a vision for a new type of company, offering boating consumers a completely new experience in ownership and innovative product,” Barrington said. “This vision has attracted some outstanding business partners, all of whom bring years of experience and success in their own business endeavors and will be instrumental in making our company successful.”

Stoecker, a 31-year veteran of Sea Ray, was a senior officer in charge of production, purchasing and transportation. He will be in charge of operations for Savannah Yachts.

Noble was with Sea Ray for 11 years as a senior officer, with various sales and dealer assignments. He will be in charge of sales and marketing for Savannah Yachts.

“The quality of our partners is a dream come true and the financial incentives provided by Effingham County will have a significant impact on our success,” Barrington said.

The company is currently in the process of recruiting key engineering and manufacturing personnel. A more comprehensive announcement regarding the company’s plans will be made later this year.
