Crownline lays 145 workers off

WEST FRANKFORT, Ill. – Crownline Boats plans to lay off 145 workers at its West Frankfort, Ill.-based manufacturing facility, effective July 10, according to a report today in The Southern Illinoisan.

The company was unavailable for comment due to a two week “summer shutdown” scheduled to end July 18.

In a release faxed to the newspaper, Crownline attributed the layoffs to a reduction in the number of boats it would build as a result of high fuel prices and interest rate hikes.

“The Crownline facility has been at record production levels for more than 18 months and current market and inventory levels no longer warrant these levels of production,” the company stated in the release.

In the past, the boat builder has laid off workers in November due to seasonal declines.
