COMMITT 2006 is a go

EDGEWATER, Md. The 2005 Conference on Marine Industry Technical Training will have an encore in 2006, with dates and a theme already chosen, Skip Burdon president of the American Boat & Yacht Council revealed in letter distributed today to 2005 COMITT participants.

The second COMITT is scheduled to be held Jan. 23 – 24, 2006, at the Safety Harbor Resort and Spa in Safety Harbor, Fla., just outside of Tampa. The theme of this year¹s conference will be ³Resources to Succeed!²

Burdon wrote that the 2005 COMITT has helped focus the industry on the need for improving workforce technical education, training and professional development opportunities. He congratulated those that have made improvements, but said there is still a sense that collective and individual resources are being stretched.

³In response to this need for more resources, the theme for COMITT ’06 is ‘Resources to Succeed!,² Burdon wrote. ³We will hear from leaders within the Federal Departments of Education and Labor, state and local governments and workforce development experts, industry leaders, grant writing professionals and others who can help you locate the resources you need to succeed.

²You will also have an opportunity to meet with, discuss and ask questions of the members of the Marine Industry Technical Education Council during their second official face to face meeting, as well as have an opportunity to participate in one or more of MITEC’s various committee meetings during the various break-out sessions. Additionally, your organization will be able to sign up for a limited number of kiosks to proudly display and inform others of your programs, products, services, etc.²

Burdon promised an informative, interactive and engaging session at a great venue, and said more information will be forthcoming.
