Fla. budgets for $5 million in marina grants

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida Governor Jeb Bush signed Florida’s new budget yesterday, which included $5,000,000 in grants for 2004 hurricane damaged marinas, a “huge victory,” according to the Marine Industries Association of Florida.

Missy Timmins, MIAF Government Affairs Director, worked tirelessly with legislators to assure that the state would help, after four hurricanes devastated marinas in many areas of Florida, the association reported in a recent statement.

All though rules for the grants have not been written, MIAF said it will stay involved in the process and will advise all members on when and how they can apply for these funds.

Those marinas that suffered damage or know of a damaged marina can forward the marina name, contact name, location and email address to MIAF at miaf@att.net or telephone its office at 305/663-1911 with the information. They will be contacted as soon as the information is available.
