Florida location wins Clean Marina designation
NAPLES, Fla. – Pelican Isle Yacht Club Marina in Naples, Fla. has received a “Clean Marina” designation from the Department of Environmental Protection, the Marine Industries Association of Collier County reported in a recent release.
John E. Findley, Certified Marina Manger of Pelican Isle Yacht Club Marina, commended his staff for its diligence in following and adhering to the strict criteria for obtaining the “Clean Marina” title.
“By maintaining a clean marina, we are protecting boaters’ enjoyment of healthy waterways and at the same time, we are protecting the environment,” Findley said.
The Clean Marina and Clean Boatyard program is a voluntary participation between marinas, boatyards and the DEP. The program is administered by the DEP and funded through grants by the Environmental Protection Agency and the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration.
Florida’s Clean Marina program goes above and beyond required environmental regulations by adopting safeguards that keep solvents, sewage, fuel and oil out of the water, while protecting manatees and other marine wildlife. By improving conditions at marine facilities, Clean Marinas are helping to ensure a sustainable future for the environment and the marine industry.
There are 8 marinas in Collier County that hold Clean Marina designations with one holding a Clean Boatyard designation as well. Barefoot Boat Club, Cedar Bay Marina, Naples Boat Club, Naples Marina and Boating Center; Pelican Isle Yacht Club, Southpointe Marina and Marina at Factory Bay have been officially recognized by the Department of Environmental Protection as Clean Marinas. Calusa Island Yacht Club and Marina has been recognized for both Clean Marina and Clean Boatyard.
