FALL RIVER, Mass. - New England Ropes has been chosen by the Olympic Sailing Committee of US SAILING, national governing body for the sport, as the official cordage sponsor to the US Sailing Team, the US Disabled Sailing Team, and the US Youth World Team, the company said yesterday.
"New England Ropes is a perfect fit for the performance needs of the country's top sailors," said US SAILING's high performance director Gary Bodie. "With the new partnership, the athletes will play a key role in the development of new ropes that they will enjoy on the water."
As part of the support being offered by New England Ropes, each team will be outfitted with a custom "line package" that has been optimized, with input from team coaches and competitors, for the specific control line, sheet, and halyard applications of each class boat.
"We are very excited to be chosen by US SAILING as official cordage sponsor, and we look forward to getting every sailor on the US Team geared up for international competition,” said Kevin Coughlin, market manager for New England Ropes. “The US Team has very strong prospects for a number of world championship wins and, in 2008, an impressive share of the medals at the Olympic Games in Beijing."
