Florida marina owner wants to expand

PALM BEACH, Fla. – The owner Martin County Marina on the St. Lucie River in Palm City, Fla., is pitching a plan to double the size of his operation, the Palm Beach Post reported in a story yesterday.

Tom Earl, co-owner of the marina for nine years, wants to expand his 62,500-square-foot dry storage facility to 109,000 square feet, boosting the number of boats the marina can store from 320 to 600. He also wants to add about 80 dock slips.

“We’ve been struggling to maintain,” Earl told the Post. “It’s a prime piece of real estate. We have to either sell out for condos or we’ve got to take it to the next step.”

Earl’s plans include a 4,000-square-foot sales facility and a 5,700-square-foot clubhouse with a swimming pool, bait shop, deli and picnic area. He is seeking county approval with hopes of starting construction in April. He estimates the project will take six to nine months to complete, the newspaper reported.
