OSS to reveal contest winners in Philadelphia

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Offshore Sailing School will reveal the winners of a contest it held for its graduates at the Philadelphia Strictly Sail Boat Show, during a party in Offshore Sailing School’s booth on Jan. 22, OSS said in a recent release.

The contest, held to celebrate the school’s 40th anniversary, was judged by John Burnham, editor of Sailing World, and Herb McCormick, editor of Cruising World. Sally Helme, publisher of both magazines, will present the awards. All boat show attendees are invited.

Contestants were asked to create an original piece communicating an aspect of sailing. Submissions included sketches, poems, photography, fictional and non-fictional essays, a puzzle, recipes and an illustrated story book in rhyme.

The Grand Prize, valued at nearly $7,000, is a 7-day/6-night vacation package at South Seas Resort on Captiva Island, Fla.

Second Prize is a six-night Moorings bareboat charter in the British Virgin Islands. Third Prize is a brand new Xcite sailboat from Hunter Marine. Fourth Prize is four nights in a deluxe villa at Hawk’s Cay Resort in the Florida Keys. Fifth Prize is $1,000 of performance sailing apparel from Gill USA.
