Dammrich gives IMC keynote address

SAN DIEGO – The 2005 International Marina Conference kicked of yesterday following a standing-room only keynote address from National Marine Manufacturers Association President Thom Dammrich on the new Grow Boating campaign, IMC producers said in a release this morning.

The Association of Marina Industries was given a sneak preview of the Grow Boating campaign on Sunday at a meeting and authorized a donation of $20,000 to the effort, with $10,000 of the amount coming from the association and the remaining $10,000 coming from the AMI board of director’s personal donations.

“The AMI board of directors’ decision to support the Grow Boating initiative is indicative of the high level of support for this important industry event,” said James Frye, AMI president.

The Grow Boating Initiative is a cooperative effort among leaders in the recreational boating industry to increase participation in boating by actively promoting the boating lifestyle to the public, improving product quality and industry statistics.

IMC ’05 is produced this year by the International Council of Marine Industry Associations, the Association of Marina Industries, the National Marina Manufacturers Association and the American Boat Builders and Repairers Association.

IMC ’05 replaced the National Marina and Boatyard Conference, which will return to Fort Lauderdale, Fla., in 2006.
