San Diego approves lease for new marina

SAN DIEGO – The San Diego Port Commission has unanimously endorsed a conditional 40-year lease to a group that is developing a 250-slip marina next to National City’s Pepper Park in San Diego Bay, the San Diego Union-Tribune reported in a story today.

The newspaper said the lease’s approval is a significant milestone in development of the marina, which National City officials have been pursuing for more than a decade.

The marina’s developer, Pier 32 LLC, must secure financing, complete preliminary plans and working drawings, enter into a construction contract, and meet several other requirements for the $7 million project by the end of 2005 for the lease to take effect.

The project also includes a two-story office building, a delicatessen, two shower-locker buildings and 220 parking spaces. Construction would take 18 months, according to the Union-Tribune.
