Westrec continues plan to lure yachts to Port Antonio

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – A self-propelled, 100-ton Travel Lift to service yachts up to 95’ in length for repairs or overland transportation was recently installed at the Port Antonio Boat Yard in Jamaica, Westrec Marinas said in a recent press release.

The full-service Port Antonio Boat Yard was anticipated by many boaters in the Central Caribbean, as this is the first of its kind in Jamaica and surrounding areas servicing private yachts. The installation of a full-service boat yard and the Travel Lift within the Port Antonio free zone will bring more visiting yachts to the area not only as a destination but also as a base, Westrec said.

William Tatham, the PAJ’s Vice President for Cruise Shipping and Marina Operations says that this is a part of the strategic plan to make Port Antonio a full-service facility for the yachting community.

“Port Antonio is now on par with traditional boat servicing destinations along the Eastern Seaboard of the United States,” Tatham said.

There are already 25 reservations for boats to be lifted into the boatyard, which can accommodate up to 50 vessels on stands.

“We have the only 100-ton Travel Lift in this part of the Caribbean,” said John Louis, Westrec Marinas’ Managing Director of the Marina at Port Antonio. “This equipment and our free zone status ramps up our advantages, as we now offer hull repairs, custom fitting and engine servicing. We also have a state-of-the-art fuelling facility, so we expect a lot more yacht visits in 2005.”
