YachtMama.com out of business?

MINNEAPOLIS – Chosen two years ago by Web site traffic and ranking company Alexa.com as its No. 1 editor’s pick for Internet users to research boats available for sale online, YachtMama.com has seemingly disappeared from the Internet.

Boating Industry magazine received a tip yesterday from an anonymous source who suggested the company officially closed its doors Nov. 5.

Attempts to reach YachtMama.com by telephone and e-mail Tuesday morning were unsuccessful, as were attempts to access the company’s Web site. At least one person, however, has reported difficulty reaching the company as far back as June.

YachtMama.com said this March that it was launching a WIFI system called YachtSpot to provide wireless public hotspots at marinas, industry tradeshows and boat shows across the country.

YachtSpot developer and director Jack Schaefer said at that time that demand for YachtSpot had been “tremendous.”
