Newport Boat Show hands out awards

NEWPORT, R.I. – Newport Exhibition Group, producers of the 34th Newport International Boat Show, recently revealed the winners of its “Steve Collins Awards” for best displays at the show, the company said in a release Friday.

Hunter Marine Corp. of Alachua, Fla., won for both “Best Sailboat Display” and overall “Best in Show.” The award for “Best Powerboat Display” went to Sabre Yachts of South Casco, Maine for its Sabreline powerboat exhibit, while Vanguard Powerboats, LLC of Wellesley Island, N.Y., and Chaos Rods of Lake Worth, Fla. won for best land and booth displays, respectively.

Edson International sponsored the award and donated an exquisite framed photograph of Shamrock II to the “Best In Show” recipient. In addition, the show’s producers presented the winners in each category with a $1,000 check toward next year’s exhibit space.

The award is dedicated to the memory of Steve Collins, who was employed by Edson International before his untimely death. Collins was an avid designer of marine displays and a collector of fine marine art.

“A great boat show display is the figurehead of a marine business, and every business owner would want a person of Steve Collins’ caliber to handle their boat show program,” said Hank Keene, general manager at Edson. “This award, given in memorial to Steve’s contribution to the industry, challenges exhibitors to display products in the most professional manner possible.”

Exhibits were judged by a panel of design and marketing experts.
