Brandy Marine to manage Jacksonville boat yard

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – MLG Capital LLC, a Brookfield, Wis. property development firm, has chosen Brandy Marine, Inc., of Sarasota, Fla., to manage the Ortega River Boat Yard in Jacksonville, Fla., Brandy Marine reported in a release today.

MLG Capital LLC recently purchased the historic marina on the Ortega River, a tributary of the St. Johns River.

Previously, Brandy conducted a marketing study and pro-forma financial analysis based on a number of upgrades and new facilities for the 80-year-old marina, popularly known as “ORBY.”

Already a designated “Clean Marina,” ORBY’s future plans include 75 upscale condominium units and a club house with amenities for residents. Existing docks with 235 wet slips will be replaced by floating docks with 200 slips configured to accommodate longer and wider vessels.

Brandy Marine has already installed the on-site management team brought in from its Marina at Grande Dunes, Myrtle Beach, S.C. Capt. Kristopher W. Schmid is the harbormaster. Amy P. Garner will serve as office and financial manager.

“ORBY was a one of the great marinas of the 20th century and, with the new plans developed and managed by Brandy Marine, we are confident she will be one of the great marinas of the 21st,” said John Graham of MLG Capital, LLC. “All of us who have been involved in this program look forward to working with the people of Brandy Marine as the new Ortega River Boat Yard takes shape.”
