Long Beach marina renovation begins
LONG BEACH, Calif. – The city of Long Beach, Calif., has launched a rehabilitation project to replace its wooden dock system at the Shoreline and Rainbow Marinas, with a ShoreMaster concrete floating dock system, the company reported recently.
When the 30-month renovation is complete, the Downtown Marinas’ ADA-compliant dock system will consist of approximately 1,700 single-loaded slips ranging from 30 to 60 feet, each outfitted with an electrical power pedestal and potable water, ShoreMaster said.
The multiple-phase project will be installed by a five-company team led by Long Beach based general contractor Connolly-Pacific Co.
“ShoreMaster had the quality and the capability to perform according to the criteria we were looking for, and the service and the benefit we’d like to give our boaters,” Long Beach Marine Bureau Superintendent Douglas Parsons said.
According to ShoreMaster Senior Vice President and Chief Engineer Dennis Tuel, Jr., ShoreMaster’s performance capabilities result from a patented, post-tensioned float connection system that creates durability while minimizing maintenance. The design/build proposal selection was managed by construction managers Concept Marine Associates, Inc.
The Connolly-Pacific team includes Tetra Tech, Inc., a worldwide provider of waterfront consulting, engineering and technical services; Fugro West, a marine geotechnical firm; and the utility installation expertise of ADCO Electrical and Advanced Mechanical Contractors. ShoreMaster will supply the marina’s dock system from its production plant and distribution center in Adelanto, Calif.
