BRP embarks on layoffs, reorganization

STURTEVANT, Wis. – For the second time this year, BRP Inc. has initiated a round of layoffs in its outboard engine division as part of a restructuring, according to Dave Thompson, director of public relations and competition for the company.

Through the restructuring, Roch Lambert, who was named executive vice president, Product Development, Sales and Marketing for North America when the corporate structure of the newly spun off company was announced this past January, has returned to his former role, heading up the company’s outboard engine business.

The assumption of his new title as vice president and general manager of outboard engines necessitates a move back to Sturtevant only weeks after he and his family relocated to Montreal.

“My message to the dealers and the consumers is that the spiritual leader of our outboard business is right back where he belongs,” said Thompson in an interview today from the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show.

Thompson’s position has been eliminated as part of the layoffs; however, he currently is assisting the company during this transition.

Ben Lafortune, vice president of sales for outboard engines, has also been laid off as part of the reorganization.

Chris Dawson, former vice president of marketing, is assuming a new position with the company as vice president of strategic planning. Pierre Arsenault, former vice president of strategic planning, will now serve as vice president and general manager of Sea Doo, Ski Doo and ATV, according to Thompson.
