MIAMI – The National Marine Manufacturers Association distributed its annual Innovation Awards this morning during its Industry Awards breakfast at the International BoatBuilders’ Exhibition and Conference in Miami.
Eight companies were selected from a pool of more than 60 entrants and recognized for creating products that best meet certain criteria, including innovative distinction from other products currently being manufactured; benefit to the marine industry and/or consumer; practicality and cost-effectiveness.
“These awards are pretty hard to get,” said Roger Marshall, editor of Dockwalk magazine and vice president of Boating Writers International, in presenting the awards. “This year we saw more than 60 new products, and virtually anyone could have been honored with an award.”
The winners were:
The Prairie Technology Group – Boatbuilding Methods and Materials category – for SWORL, a sprayable silicone bagging material that can be sprayed onto tooling to form a removable injection molding seal or a vacuum bagging barrier coat that is fully reusable.
Westerbeke – Electrical Systems category – for Safe-CO Generator, a new line of gasoline-fueled marine gensets that reduce CO emissions by well over 99 percent compared with typical carbureted generators.
R&D Systems – Engine Systems category – for the Polymer Heat Exchanger, a product with no metal parts to react with the engine alloy.
Current Composites – Furnishings & Finishes category – for Silent Running – SR 1000, a water-based, VOC-free, single-part vibration and sound dampening coating.
Hayn Enterprises – Hardware Fittings category – for Hi-Mod Failsafe Insulator, the only fail safe wire rigging insulator on the market.
Sea Fire Marine – Mechanical Systems category – for Fire Foe, an automatic fire-suppression system that extinguishes fires through a self-activating, temperature sensitive delivery tube.
Tacktick – OEM Electronics & Electronic Systems category – for Micronet System, a new range of wireless, solar-powered electronics.
Mercury Marine – Outboard Engine category – for Verado, its supercharged four-stroke outboard motor.
