NY/NJ show attendance stable despite obstacles

JERSEY CITY, N.J. – Despite a shorter format, bad weather and regional competition, the third annual New York/New Jersey International Boat Show – held Sept. 16-19 at Liberty Landing Marina in Jersey City – posted comparable attendance figures to the 2004 show, organizers said in a release this morning.

“Total initial attendance figures are estimated to be comparable to last year’s five-day event,” said Liberty Marine Marketing Group, which organized the show. “This is impressive considering the four-day event was essentially cut to three by an all-day rain on Saturday. Thursday and Friday had double the previous year’s attendance, while Sunday’s numbers nearly doubled.”

Nearly 300 boats were on display from manufacturers like Sea Ray, Cruisers, Bayliner and Formula. The reconfigured in-water portion allowed for better traffic flow on the docks, while maintaining the show’s unique feature of allowing attendees to run sea trials, according to producers The 40,000-square-foot clear span exhibitor tent housed a selection of boats and marine accessory and parts vendors.

“Going up against a long-running show like Newport was tough, and the rain didn’t help, but the show turned out very well,” said Ken Tesler, Liberty Marine Marketing Group’s executive producer. “Being able to grow year after year and overcome obstacles like these is a testament to the continued success of this show.”
