NMMA to produce new Virginia boat show

CHICAGO – The National Marine Manufacturers Association will add to its portfolio of boat shows with the debut of the Virginia In-Water Boat Expo, co-produced with Norfolk Festevents, to be held Sept. 9-11, 2005 in Norfolk, Va., NMMA said in a release yesterday.

Organizers anticipate that more than 100 boats and 75 accessory booths will be featured at the 2005 event, which will also feature informational seminars, entertainment and food courts.

“This show will help NMMA members sell product in an area that is deeply entrenched in the boating lifestyle, and with NMMA shows in Atlanta, Miami and Tampa, it will help expand the market in the Southeast for NMMA members,” said Southern Regional Shows Manager Cathy Johnston.

With the addition of the Virginia show, there are now 23 boat shows on NMMA’s 2005 calendar, including the Miami International Boat Show, New York National Boat Show and Chicago Boat, RV & Outdoors Show.

“Discover Boating’s participation in the Norfolk Harborfest indicated that this was a great boating area for us,” said NMMA President Thom Dammrich. “As we began to investigate this opportunity, we were overwhelmed by the local dealers’ desire for NMMA to produce a show in downtown Norfolk.”
