NMD award applications now available

WASHINGTON – Applications for awards honoring outstanding National Marina Day events are now available in three distinct categories, according to the Marina Operators Association of America, which produces the event.

Stephen Wakefield, manager of State Government Relations and Outreach at MOAA, said the association would present awards to NMD participants in recognition of best media coverage, best local political advocacy and best overall event.

One innovation in this year’s awards program is the creation of two categories for each award, according to Wakefield.

“In the past, MOAA has given out only one award in each category,” said Wakefield. “However, this year we wanted to recognize marina operators both large and small for their outstanding NMD events, so two awards, one to a marina with more than 200 slips and one to a marina with less than 200 slips, will be presented in each category.”

The awards will be presented at the 2005 International Marina Conference, being held Jan. 9-12 in San Diego.

Award applications can be obtained by calling Wakefield at 202/721-1622 or by e-mailing swakefield@nmma.org. Applications can also be found at http://www.moaa.com/nmd/.

The fourth annual National Marina Day 2005 will be celebrated on August 13, 2005.
