MTA/NJ to celebrate National Marina Day

BRICK, N.J. – In celebration of National Marina Day Aug. 14, the Marine Trades Association of New Jersey is hosting a Legislative Open House at Winter Yacht Basin in Mantoloking, N.J. The event is being held in conjunction with Winter Yacht Basin’s annual customer appreciation celebration, the MTA/NJ said in a recent release.

The open house will highlight the contributions of the recreational marine industry to the community and the economy, and will include a tour of the marina and boat yard, a boat ride on Barnegat Bay, refreshments and entertainment.

“Inviting our respected elected officials out on the water is an excellent opportunity to introduce them to boating in N.J. and highlight the importance of the boating industry to the community and the overall economy,” said Melissa Danko, executive director of the MTA/NJ.

Saturday, Aug.14 was proclaimed by New Jersey Governor James McGreevey and the Ocean County Board of Chosen Freeholders as Marina Day in New Jersey.

National Marina Day is an annual celebration of the important role marinas play in waterfront communities in New Jersey and all across America. New Jersey is home to hundreds of recreational boating facilities that contribute substantially to their communities by providing a safe, reliable gateway to boating for residents and welcome guests, the MTA/NJ said.

A number of marinas throughout the state are also hosting marina day activities on Aug. 14. Morgan Marina, 732-721-2290, in Parlin will be hosting a boater appreciation day in celebration of National Marina Day. The event includes raffles, music, hot dogs, and face painting.

Crystal Point Yacht Club, 732-892- 2300, in Point Pleasant, and the Manasquan River Club, 732-840-0300, in Brick, will have Coast Guard Auxiliary inspections of customer’s boats, a fishing tournament for children, and will be passing out boating literature.

Events are also planned at Irwin Marine in Red Bank, 732-741-0003 and Schooner Island Marina in Wildwood, 609-729-8900. Contact the marinas directly for more information about planned activities.
