MOAA names 2004 Bob Giesler Scholarship winners
WASHINGTON – In conjunction with tomorrow’s celebration of the third annual National Marina Day, the Marina Operators Association of America has named three winners of the 2004 Giesler Scholarship, MOAA said in a release today.
Bradley Clark of Carlyle, Ill., Sky Mielke of Castalia, Ohio, and Cole Solberg of Huron, Ohio, were the recipients of the $1,500 awards, MOAA said.
“MOAA would like to extend congratulations to these three fine candidates and wish them luck in their future endeavors,” MOAA said in its release.
Clark, who currently works at West Access Marina in Carlyle, Ill., is planning to attend Ranken Technical College in St. Louis to obtain an Associates of Science degree.
Mielke is interested in pursuing a career in marine mechanics and is planning to attend the Marine Mechanics Institute in Orlando, Fla., in the fall.
Solberg, whose father, uncle, aunt and two cousins work in the family business at Huron Lagoons Marina, will be attending Ohio State University as a business major.
The Bob Giesler Scholarship was created in memory of MOAA’s first president, Bob Giesler, and is organized to foster and maintain an interest in higher education aimed at a career in the recreational boating trades. Each year, the scholarship, which is funded entirely by MOAA member contributions, is offered to the children and employees of MOAA members, and awarded in conjunction with association’s NMD observance.
National Marina Day is produced by MOAA and is celebrated annually on the second Saturday of August. MOAA is currently soliciting contributions for next year’s scholarship cycle.
“In the past, MOAA’s members have been extremely generous in their support of this endeavor and I look forward to their continued assistance,” MOAA executive director Jim Frye said.
