Motorsports Hall of Fame to begin mobile tour

DETROIT – Detroit’s Motorsports Hall of Fame of America will begin a two-year traveling exhibit, dubbed the Heroes of Horsepower Mobile Tour, to help generate funds to locate a new venue for the Hall of Fame, currently housed in Novi, Mich., exhibit organizers reported in a recent release.

The tour is scheduled to premier during the Speedweek festivities just prior to the Daytona 500 in February. Visitors to the exhibit will find a 75-foot-long mobile version of the Motorsports Hall of Fame housed inside a double expandable, tractor-trailer rig, featuring computer kiosks, racing memorabilia, and a gallery of motorsports figures and machines – including powerboats and boating legends.

The tour – which is slated to visit some of America’s most exciting powersports events, locations and attractions – will be produced by Mobility Resource Associates of St. Clair Shores, Mich.

Ron Watson, Motorsports Hall of Fame President, provided highlights of the mobile tour at the 16th annual induction ceremonies held July 29 at the State Theatre in Detroit, where Indy car champion Bobby Rahal, drag racing legend Joe Amato, and NASCAR executive Bill France Jr. joined four other motorsports stars being enshrined at the Motorsports Hall of Fame.

“These are some of the finest legends we’ve ever honored at the Hall of Fame, “ said Watson. “And we hope to fund a new site for the museum by taking our show on the road to millions of racing fans in America.”

Ehlert Publishing Group to be media partner

Ehlert Publishing Group, of Maple Grove, Minn., recently agreed to become the tour’s media partner and will link the campaign to its 12 powersports magazines, two television shows, and their advertisers.

“This is an exceptional marketing opportunity for us,” said Dick Hendricks, executive vice president of Ehlert Publishing Group. “And with more than 1.6 million readers, Ehlert magazines can deliver outstanding promotional exposure for the Heroes of Horsepower Mobile Tour.”

According to studies cited by Ehlert, powersports fans are loyal consumers, spending an average $12,000 annually on related equipment and travel. MRA estimates the Heroes of Horsepower Mobile Tour will produce over 170 million tour impressions per year during its two-year tour.
