SCMA to hold Marina Education Conference
CHARLESTON, S.C. – The South Carolina Marine Association will hold a new education conference for marinas on Aug. 31 in Columbia, S.C., in conjunction with the Marina Operators Association of America and the International Marina Institute, SCMA said in a release today.
The 2004 Marina Education Conference will be a one-day format, replacing the previous multi-day marine expo conferences held in the past. The conference is designed to help marina owners and staffs meet the challenges and opportunities facing the industry, SCMA said.
Topics to be covered include “Insurance for Marinas and Workman’s Comp Issues” by Riley & Associates; “ADA Compliance for Marinas” by MOAA; “Clean Marina Programs” by Sara Tuttle, S.C. Dept. of Natural Resources; “Marina Financing” by Andrew Cantor, Textron Financial; and “Permitting Breakout Sessions” by Rocky Browder, S.C. Office of Coastal Resource Management, and representatives from Duke Power.
Jim Frye, executive director of the MOAA and IMI, will discuss the state of the marina industry and the merger of its two leading national associations in a keynote address during a luncheon. The conference will end with a “Best Profit Ideas” discussion, where marina operators can share their most profitable ideas for adding to the bottom line or managing expenses, followed by a cocktail reception.
Jamie O’Brien, SCMA executive director, expects the conference to draw participants from North and South Carolina and Georgia. “The agenda has topics applicable to both inland and coastal marinas,” O’Brien said. “It’s just one example of how SCMA is pro-active in providing information to its members as well as others in the marine industry.”
