Storage fees rise on Finger Lakes
ALBANY, N.Y. – A $5-per-foot increase in seasonal storage fees for boaters who store their watercraft at parks on New York’s Cayuga and Seneca lakes recently took effect, but boaters in the region don’t seem overly concerned with the price hike, according to a story in the Binghamton, N.Y. Press & Sun-Bulletin newspaper today.
The state agency that oversees parks on those lakes said the increase for the Finger Lakes region was the first in nine years. The higher fees were adopted in last year’s budget and the funds will go to maintain and improve park facilities, according to the story.
Boaters are paying $35 per foot for storage and $42 per foot if their vessel requires an electrical hookup.
“This is basically an inflationary adjustment,” Cathy Jimenez, a parks department spokeswoman, told the newspaper. “It seems that no one in the region has had any complaints about it.”
Allan H. Treman State Marine Park in Ithaca has the largest inland marina in New York, with capacity for 399 vessels. The other affected parks are Seneca Lake, Taughannock Falls, Sampson and Lodi Point. Last year, fees at public marinas on Lake Erie were increased, the Press & Sun-Bulletin reported.
