Boothbay Boatyard awarded Clean Marina status
PORTLAND, Maine – Boothbay Region Boatyard in W. Southport, Maine has become the first mid-coast boatyard/marina to be awarded Clean Marina status under the recently expanded Maine Clean Boatyards & Marinas Program, according to a recent press release from the Maine Marine Trade Association.
During the award presentation, it was noted that Boothbay Boatyard has, for many years, been working diligently on making improvements to its physical plant and in training employees to meet and/or exceed environmental standards, the MMTA said.
“This award is possible because the people who work here work hard every day to make sure that the facility is kept clean and that waste and any hazardous materials are handled properly,” said Jeff Lowell, president of Boothbay Region Boatyard in accepting the award.
The purpose of the program is to curb coastal pollution resulting from stormwater runoff, boat maintenance, fueling activities, waste storage and disposal and sewage. Participation in the Maine Clean Boatyards & Marinas Program is voluntary, with participating companies signing a pledge, completing a self-assessment and then inviting a verification team to inspect the facility, the MMTA said.
