GURNEE, Ill. – The Intercontinental Hotel in Yokohama, Japan has been selected to host the 32nd meeting of the Marinas Committee of the International Council of Marine Industry Associations, Sept. 24-26, according to an ICOMIA press release yesterday.

The committee was invited by ICOMIA member Japan Marina and Beach Association to help celebrate JMBA’s 30th anniversary. In conjunction with that event, JMBA has organized a World Symposium on Marinas and Beaches to be held September 27. About 500 representatives of industry and government are expected to attend, ICOMIA said.

Ron Stone, the ICOMIA Marinas Committee Chair, will keynote the symposium on the subject of how the committee serves as a catalyst for strength and unity in the world marina community. Currently, 15 national and regional associations of marina operators, developers, consultants and marina equipment and systems manufacturers from more than 30 countries around the world are actively involved in the work for the committee, according to the association.

Sam Bourne, executive director for the Yacht Harbour Association of the UK, will speak on achieving and recognizing quality in marinas, and marina consultant Dan Natchez will speak on the importance of marinas to national, state and local economies, ICOMIA said.
