Suzuki reaches purchase agreement with IBBI

BREA, Calif. – Outboard-engine manufacturer Suzuki Marine has reached an agreement with Independent Boat Builders Inc. to sell its full line of 4-stroke outboard motors – including its V6 200, 225 and 250 HP models – to IBBI member boat companies, Suzuki said in a release today.

Unlike other outboard-motor manufacturers, Suzuki Marine does not own or have an interest in any boat building, personal watercraft or jet-boat companies, and as such, does not compete with IBBI member companies. This was an important factor in the IBBI decision, according to the engine builder.

“Our member boat builders appreciate the fact that they’re not competing with Suzuki for boat-buying customers,” said Tom Broy, president of IBBI. “We’re a group of independent businesses and it’s great to partner with an independent engine manufacturer.”

Details of the agreement were not disclosed.
