Ontario chandlery to join Clean Marine Eco-Rating

PENETANGUISHENE, Ontario – Mason’s chandlery, located in Port Credit Ontario, is the first facility of its type to join the Clean Marine Eco-Rating Program, according to a recent press release from the Ontario Marine Operators Association.

The OMOA Clean Marine Eco-Rating is managed by Terra Choice Environmental Services, an independent environmental management company licensed by Environment Canada. Environmental audit results are tabulated and facilities are scored with from one to five Green Leaf Anchors. A report is issued, and along with the continuous quality improvement prescribed in the Clean Marine Operations Handbook, each subsequent audit results in improved performance.

“We want to show that the boaters and marine businesses in Ontario are doing their part to improve the water quality of our lakes and rivers,” said Mason’s chandlery owner Lori Mason. “It makes no sense to place the blame on others, and each one of us using Ontario’s waters has some responsibility. The Clean Marinas use best management practices and we promote the right practices, products and services for our boaters.”

The OMOA Clean Marine flag will fly at Mason’s – the Store and at its neighbors’ locations as well. Credit Village Marina, located in the same complex in Port Credit Harbour, and nearby Bronte Outer Harbour were two of the 12 facilities Eco-Rated in May.
