Wholesale dollar boat sales jump in January

CHICAGO – Wholesale dollar sales of all boats were up 15.6 percent in January, compared to the prior year numbers, while unit boat shipments were down 5.2 percent, based on the January Monthly Shipment Report (MSR) just released by the National Marine Manufacturers Association.

The traditional powerboat segments, (outboard, sterndrive, and inboard boats) were up 20 percent in dollars and up 11 percent in units shipped for January, compared to the previous year, NMMA said in a press release yesterday.

“Coming off a strong 2003, the traditional powerboat segment has maintained its course during January, with both inboard and sterndrive boats experiencing double-digit increases compared to January of last year,” said Jim Petru, NMMA Market Statistics director.
