New Mississippi marina planned

OCEAN SPRINGS, Miss. – Plans are underway for a $7.5 million project that will build what developers have called South Mississippi’s largest marina, a story in today’s Biloxi Sun Herald reported.

The Ocean Springs Marina would have 400 slips when completed in August 2005 and would be built on the north side of U.S. 90 near the Biloxi-Ocean Springs bridge, according to the Sun Herald.

The slips would be sold for between $35,000 and $65,000, depending on size, the newspaper reported.

The developers – Ocean Springs resident George Schamberger and his partner, Julian Davis of Covington, La. – hope to close on the $2.8 million marina property on Aug. 1., and say financing for the project is already in place, according to the story.

Schamberger told the newspaper that, based on a study in the 1990s, there is a need for about 6,000 boat slips on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
