ISO scantlings standard available for review

CHICAGO – The first draft of an ISO scantlings standard that could potentially impact all boat manufacturers shipping product to the EU is now available for industry review, use and comment, the National Marine Manufacturers Association said in a recent release.

ISO 12215, Part 5, “Design pressures for monohulls, design stresses, scantling determinations” may soon be part of the requirements for CE certification of recreational boats, NMMA said.

The ISO working group now requests that boat manufacturers begin using the standard in their design processes in order to conduct a beta test of the standard’s design protocol, according to NMMA.

Questions concerning this standard or submissions of comment or change can be addressed to NMMA director of Engineering Standards Thomas Marhevko at (312) 946-6213; tmarhevko@nmma.org.

A copy of the standard can be found at the NMMA Web site.
