Clean boating campaign planned for Lake St. Clair
ROCHESTER, Mich. – Local and national organizations have joined forces this year to coordinate the Lake St. Clair Dockwalkers Program to promote clean boating practices among boaters, according to a release today from the Marine Environmental Education Foundation (MEEF).
The program is the first-ever of its kind on the waters of Lake St. Clair, and will use the Dockwalkers curriculum to provide boaters with simple instructions and lake-friendly products to help protect the lake’s water quality, MEEF said.
Participating with MEEF in the program are the Anchor Bay Yachting Association (ABYA) and the Clinton River Watershed Council (CRWC).
MEEF said it has successfully implemented the Dockwalker Program with the Tennessee Valley Authority and boating/water resource conservation groups in Boston Harbor and San Francisco Bay in recent years.
“Protecting our water quality is up to each of us,” said Dave Staudt, chairman of MEEF’s Dockwalkers.org committee and past chairman of the National Clean Boating Campaign. “This campaign for Lake St. Clair is exactly the type of local network of organizations, associations, businesses and individuals that we want to establish and see sustained.”
