Pacific Sail Expo advance ticket sales up 25 percent

OAKLAND, Calif. – The Pacific Sail Expo is scheduled to begin today at Jack London Square in Oakland, with advanced ticket sales up 25 percent over last year and more than 300 exhibitors on hand, according to a press release yesterday from organizers.

Sail America and the National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA), the event’s co-producers, said strong first-quarter sales have generated a great deal of optimism for the ninth edition of the expo, which bills itself as the largest West Coast sailboat show.

“The docks are packed, the tents are full, and the mood is definitely enthusiastic,” said show producer Scot West of Sail America. “… many exhibitors are coming off a strong first quarter. People are really primed for a good kickoff to spring.”

Pacific Sail Expo will feature free seminars with experts, opportunities to try sailing, and social activities for showgoers. Organizers have expanded the seminar program beyond the classroom by moving several sessions on board boats, organizers reported.

Discover Racing also has been expanded this year. For example, showgoers can participate in round-the-buoys races. In addition, local groups such as the Yacht Racing Association of San Francisco Bay, the San Francisco Bay Etchells class, and Treasure Island Sailing Center have helped build this part of the show into an information center on the Bay-area racing scene, according to organizers.

The expo will run through Sunday, April 18.
