Onan signs SmartCraft licensing agreement

MINNEAPOLIS – Marine generator set manufacturer Onan has signed a protocol license agreement with Brunswick New Technologies to provide generator information to the integrated SmartCraft Networked databus system, Onan said in a statement yesterday.

“Onan chose to use the SmartCraft protocol for several reasons,” said LeAnne Ketelsen, director of marine sales and marketing for Cummins Power Generation, which manufactures the Onan brand. “The SmartCraft technology meets the needs of the marine industry with network specifications for multiple engines, generators, instruments, sensors, displays, and navigational products.”

The SmartCraft Networked system consolidates transmitted data from several sources, including the Onan generator, through a common databus to a common display located for the user’s viewing.

MotoTron, a division of Brunswick New Technologies, is responsible for the databus system design, integrity and support. The Onan e-Series of diesel and gasoline marine generators from 4 kW to 99 kW have a digital electronic control, developed by Onan, which provides the information used by the SmartCraft network.
