Florida court rules in favor of YachtBroker.com
WINTER PARK, Fla. – A district court in Florida has ruled that YachtBroker.com’s Valet Service did not infringe the copyright of YachtWorld.com and boats.com, according to a statement from YachtBroker.com this morning.
YachtBroker.com had filed a lawsuit in 2002 after it said YachtWorld.com published statements accusing YachtBroker.com of trespassing on the YachtWorld.com Web site.
YachtBroker.com said the recent ruling assured yacht brokers that they cannot lose their copyright on the core information used in selling their boats online and meant brokers will have more freedom with their core information.
“The court’s decision approves of YachtBroker.com’s services and technologies, which make listing boats/yachts online easier, less time-consuming and inexpensive to yacht brokers,” said Mark J. Horne, founder of YachtBroker.com. “I am very excited for the yacht brokers because they can rely on this decision to feel assured that they do in fact own the copyright to their listings.”
boats.com Inc. did not respond to a request for comment in time for this article.
