Brunswick and Genmar become ABYC benefactors

EDGEWATER, Md. – Brunswick Boat Group and Genmar Holdings, Inc. has each increased its membership level with the American Boat & Yacht Council (ABYC), becoming an “ABYC Corporate Benefactor” by contributing $15,000 or more to ABYC and its supporting programs, the council said today.

By upgrading membership, Brunswick and Genmar help provide the financial support needed for the council to continue developing industry standards, workforce training and professional development programs, according to ABYC.

“Brunswick and Genmar have been long-time supporters of ABYC, we are delighted that they decided to step up to the benefactor level,” said Skip Burdon, ABYC president. “The support of all members, especially our benefactors, enables ABYC to move much more rapidly on projects that are critical to the marine industry and boating safety.”

Brunswick has been an ABYC member since 1978 and Genmar since 1993. The companies participate on numerous project technical committees, and consistently support ABYC educational seminars and workshops for their employees and encourage the use of consensus-based standards throughout the marine industry, ABYC said.

“ABYC provides the industry with invaluable tools to make boating safer, and that is why we have continued our support of ABYC and its programs for so long,” said Dave Marlow, Brunswick’s director of Product Integrity.

“Using ABYC standards in the design and manufacture of our boats is our first step in providing a safe and enjoyable boating experience for the boating public,” said Marcia Kull, senior vice president of Operations for Genmar.
