Boat sales strong on Treasure Coast

FORT PIERCE, Fla. – Boat dealers on Florida’s Treasure Coast are reporting strong sales during their winter season, the strongest in years, according to an informal survey conducted for a story in today’s Fort Pierce Tribune.

Lou Lentine, of Lentine Marine in Stuart, Fla., was one of several local dealers contacted for the story. He said new boats are selling at a 20-percent-faster rate than in 2003, and that Yamaha outboard motors also are selling very well for his business.

“We sold more than 800 motors last year, and we’re on pace to do more than that this year,” Lentine said.

Jim Sabia, owner of Top Notch Marine, said in the story that sales reports are rosy at his Fort Pierce store.

“For the year, our sales are up 20 percent. I feel like our business is going to grow tremendously,” Sabia told the newspaper.

Used boats are propelling sales at Hobe Sound Marine, where revenue is up more than 30 percent over 2003, the Tribune said.

“Four or five years ago, our business was mainly new boats, but the consignment and trade-ins now are really selling,” Barbara Patton, Hobe Sound Marine’s owner and sales manager, told the newspaper.
