New docks open at Washington marina
OLYMPIA, Wash. – Three new 8-foot-wide “orca” docks, new laundry, shower and restroom facilities, and other amenities opened at Swantown Marina in Olympia this month, the marina said in a recent statement.
After almost a year of construction, boats are moving into 157 slips on the new D, E, and F docks. Ranging from 20 to 66 feet, the slips were designed to accommodate larger boats. About 100 slips were reserved prior to opening, with 60 of these going to first-time Swantown tenants.
The new addition will bring the marina total to 645 permanent moorage slips with guest moorage for 50 more, the marina reported.
“After years of planning, it is exciting to have boats moored at the new docks,” said Port Commissioner Bob Van Schoorl. “The new slips and other improvements are the next step in continuing to make Swantown South Sound’s premier recreational boating facility.”
Utilities and other infrastructure were installed to prepare the marina for future development. A 30,000-square-foot multi-purpose marina village is proposed to be located upland from the new docks. The total value of the improvements was $3.3 million.
“Expansion of Swantown Marina is an important piece of the larger Port vision for East Bay, which is driven by our comprehensive plan,” said Van Schoorl. “Constructing new facilities and enhancing Olympia as a boating destination creates a synergy with local businesses, supports port tenants, increases revenues, provides additional recreational opportunities, and stimulates tourism and the local economy.”
